How to Update Kits in PES 2021 Manually — Complete Step by Step Guide (2025)

By MrRealMod June 2025 PES 2021 | Kits | Tutorial | PC Guide
One of the most common questions from PES 2021 players is how to get the latest 2024-2025 season kits into the game. The base game still shows kits from 2021, which means every team is wearing an outdated design. In this complete guide you will learn two methods to update kits in PES 2021 manually — using an option file for the quickest update, and using Sider with Kit Server for the most accurate and flexible approach. Both methods are explained step by step so even complete beginners can follow along.

Why Do Kits Need to Be Updated Manually?

PES 2021 was Konami's last traditional PES release before they switched to the free-to-play eFootball model. Because Konami stopped providing official updates after the initial 2020-2021 season data, everything in the game — squads, kits, player faces, and transfers — is completely outdated as of 2025.

Every major club redesigns its kits at the start of each season. Sponsors change, colour schemes are refreshed, and new design partnerships bring completely different looks. By 2025, some clubs have gone through four or five complete kit redesigns since PES 2021 was released. Without a manual update, you are playing with kits that no longer exist in real football.

Thankfully the modding community updates PES 2021 kits every single season. There are two main ways to get these updates into your game, and both are covered in full detail below.

Method Comparison — Which Is Right for You?

Method 1 — Option File

+Faster to install

+No extra tools needed

+Updates squads at same time

-Lower resolution kit textures

-Less control over individual kits

Method 2 — Sider Kit Server

+Highest quality kit textures

+Full control over every kit

+Easy to update individual clubs

-Requires Sider to be installed

-Slightly more setup involved

Recommendation: Use both methods together for the best result. Install an option file first to get correct squad data and basic kit assignments, then layer Sider Kit Server on top for the highest quality kit textures.

Method 1 — Update Kits Using an Option File

An option file updates kits, squads, and team data all at once. This is the quickest way to get your game feeling current and requires no additional tools beyond WinRAR or 7-Zip.

1 Download the latest option file

Find a current option file designed for Smoke Patch 21 V4.5 — this is the most widely used base patch and the one that all major option files are built for. RealMod publishes regular option file updates — check our PES 2021 download section for the latest version. Download the archive file to your PC.

2 Extract the option file

Right-click the downloaded archive and choose Extract here using WinRAR or 7-Zip. Inside you will find a file named EDIT00000000 — this is the option file that contains all kit and squad data.

3 Back up your current option file

Before replacing anything, navigate to your PES 2021 save folder and copy the existing EDIT00000000 file to your desktop as a backup. If anything goes wrong, you can restore it immediately.

C:\Users\[YourName]\Documents\KONAMI\eFootball PES 2021\[ID number]\save\

4 Replace the option file

Copy the new EDIT00000000 file from your extracted folder and paste it into your save folder. Click Yes when Windows asks if you want to replace the existing file.

5 Launch PES 2021 and verify

Start PES 2021 with Smoke Patch 21 V4.5 active. Go to Edit Mode and check any major club — for example check Chelsea, Barcelona, or Bayern Munich. If you see their correct 2024-2025 kit design, the option file has been applied successfully.

Common mistake: Make sure you paste the EDIT file into the numbered folder (your account ID folder), not into the root KONAMI folder. The correct path has a long number in it. If you put it in the wrong place the game will not detect the new kits.

Method 2 — Update Kits Using Sider and Kit Server

Kit Server is a module built into modern versions of Sider that loads high-resolution kit files dynamically without modifying any of the game's original files. This method gives you the best possible kit quality and the most flexibility to update individual clubs without reinstalling everything.

1 Make sure Sider is installed

Kit Server requires Sider to be installed and running. If you have not set up Sider yet, read our complete Sider installation guide first — it covers every step from download to configuration. Come back here once Sider is working.

2 Enable Kit Server in sider.ini

Open your sider.ini file in Notepad. Find the Kit Server section and make sure it looks like this:

[kserv]
enabled = 1
priority = 1
folder = "kits"

If this section does not exist in your sider.ini, add it manually at the end of the file. Save and close Notepad.

3 Download a kitpack

Download a Kit Server compatible kitpack for PES 2021 — make sure the pack is labelled as compatible with SP21 V4.5 and Sider Kit Server. These packs contain kit files named with team ID numbers rather than club names. Download the archive and extract it to your PC.

4 Copy kit files to the correct folder

Inside the extracted kitpack you will find folders named with numbers — these are team ID folders. Copy all of them into the Sider kits folder:

sider/content/kits/

If the kits folder does not exist inside your content folder, create it now. The folder structure should look like this:

sider/
  content/
    kits/
      1/  (team ID folders)
      2/
      ...

5 Launch Sider then PES 2021

Run sider.exe first — wait until the Sider icon appears in your system tray. Then launch PES 2021 as normal. Go into a match and check the kits. If you see the correct 2024-2025 kit designs with high-resolution textures, Kit Server is working correctly.

Pro tip: You can update a single club's kit without reinstalling the entire kitpack. Just download the new kit files for that specific club and replace only their numbered team folder inside sider/content/kits/. This is perfect for updating a club that released a new kit mid-season.

How to Update a Single Club's Kit

One of the biggest advantages of the Sider Kit Server method is that you can update individual clubs without touching anything else. This is very useful during the season when clubs release new third kits or change a sponsor design mid-campaign.

  1. Find the team ID number for the club you want to update — these are listed on major PES modding sites
  2. Download the new kit files for that specific club
  3. Navigate to your sider/content/kits/ folder
  4. Find the numbered folder that matches the club's team ID
  5. Replace the kit files inside that folder with the new ones
  6. Restart Sider and launch PES 2021 — the new kit will load immediately

Troubleshooting Kit Problems

Kits are still showing old designs after installing the option file
Check that you placed the EDIT00000000 file in the correct save folder path — specifically inside the numbered ID folder, not the root KONAMI folder. Also make sure Smoke Patch 21 V4.5 is installed and active when you launch the game.
Kit Server kits are not loading even with Sider running
Open sider.ini and confirm the [kserv] section has enabled = 1 and the folder path is set to "kits". Also check that your kit files are inside sider/content/kits/ in numbered team folders — not loose files directly in the kits folder.
Some clubs have updated kits but others still show old designs
The kitpack you installed may not include all clubs. Most kitpacks focus on major European leagues. For smaller or less well-known leagues, you may need to find a league-specific kit addon or wait for the main pack to be expanded in a future update.
Goalkeeper kits are not updating even after installing a new kitpack
Goalkeeper kits use separate files from outfield kits. Make sure your kitpack includes goalkeeper kit files and that they are inside the correct numbered team folder. Some kitpacks include outfield kits only — check the readme file that came with your pack to see what is included.
